Travis Toews picks former CPP Investment Board CEO to head AIMCo
Last week, Alberta’s lieutenant governor approved the recommendation of finance minister, Travis Toews, appointing Mark Wiseman as chair of the Alberta Investment Management Corporation.
Also known as AIMCo, this crown corporation manages assets for 375,000 members of provincial public retirement programs, as well as for endowments, government funds, and other public accounts, including the Heritage Savings Trust Fund.
Wiseman’s 3-year term is effective next month.
He worked in senior management at the CPP Investment Board for 11 years, including 4 years as president and CEO. After leaving the CPP Investment Board in 2016, he went on to be global head of active equities at BlackRock, a global investment management corporation.
He was regarded as a potential successor to BlackRock’s 67-year-old CEO, Larry Fisk, but stepped down abruptly at the end of last year after failing to disclose a relationship he was having with a BlackRock colleague.
Wiseman was also founder and former chair of FCLTGlobal, a non-profit organization that promotes long-term decision-making in business and investing.
