Tyler Shandro appoints 4 new people to Health Disciplines Board
The Alberta lieutenant governor recently approved the appointment of the following individuals to the Health Disciplines Board, all of whom were recommended by Tyler Shandro, the health minister:
- Karena Apps Eccles
- Kevin Kelly
- Patrizia Valle
- Peter Jamieson
All appointments are until 2023, except for Valle, whose term expires in 2022.
Karena Apps Eccles is the HSPnet provincial coordinator and the privacy officer with Alberta Health Services. She is also a nutritional consultant and teaches nutrition-related classes at the University of Alberta and at NAIT.
Kevin Kelly is a Calgary-based mediator and arbitrator. He has also sat on the Law Enforcement Review Board.
Patrizia Valle is a legal consultant based out of Calgary. She also serves on the Alberta Human Rights Commission. Last year, Valle contributed $1,250 to the United Conservative Party, as well as another $1,250 to the UCP during the election campaign.
Peter Jamieson is the medical director of the Foothills Medical Centre, the site chief of the Foothills Hospitalist Program, the associate medical director of the Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone, and the medical lead of Clinical Informatics. He also is a clinical professor with the University of Calgary and sits on the Human Drug Advisory Panel of the Patented Medicines Price Review Board of Canada.
According to section 3(8) of the Health Disciplines Act, members of the Health Disciplines Board are entitled to remuneration (including expenses), but the appointment announcement wasn’t clear on what that remuneration would look like.
